IIASA Job Opportunity: Research Assistant in Data Science (Part-time, Temporary)

The Novel Data Ecosystems for Sustainability (NODES) Research Group at IIASA is looking for a research assistant in data science for 20 hours per week for a temporary period of 10 months to support the group with various data management and analysis needs, and in particular those within the SATFARM project (focused on climate smart agricultural practices).

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Collect, manage and organize various datasets needed within the project, formatting these datasets as required for subsequent analysis
  • Liaise with project partners in terms of data exchange as needed
  • Perform exploratory data analysis on the aforementioned datasets
  • Provide summaries of data analyses, and present these summaries at the project meetings and workshops together with the main project scientists
  • Contribute to publications on the findings resulting from the project
  • Draft relevant parts of the various project reports
  • In line with the team spirit that prevails at IIASA, the incumbent may occasionally work on other tasks assigned by their superiors, that might not be directly related to this appointment but where the post holder has relevant experience and skills, and/or a shortage of immediate personnel capabilities requires such.

Our requirements:

  • Min. master’s degree in a relevant subject, ideally enrolled in a PhD program
  • Background in economics/statistics, proven track record performing data analysis
  • Excellent programming and analytical skills using R
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fluent English – both spoken and written
  • Working knowledge of German would be an asset
  • High degree of responsibility and the ability to adhere to deadlines

The selected candidate should be available to take up the position as soon as possible. We will offer an initial part-time (50% representing 20 hours per week) contract for ten months.
