Minister of Science and Innovation to open international conference on Technology and instrumentation in Particle Physics

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Dr. Blade Nzimande, will be opening the 2023 conference on Technology and Instrumentation in Particle Physics (TIPP) at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) on Monday, 4 September.

Minister Nzimande will welcome over 250 of the top scientists in particle physics instrumentation and technology from all over the world. Particle Physics Technology and Instrumentation is the backbone of the infrastructure at large-scale particle physics laboratories, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

“This is really an opportunity for all the top scientists in their field to come together and report back on their work and advances in the field of particle physics technology of the past two years,” says Professor Bruce Mellado from Wits University’s School of Physics and NRF-iThemba LAB, who is chairing the conference.

“The conference is a showcase of how international scientists can work together, and how it can benefit South Africa.”

During the four-day conference, over 200 presentations will be held that describe the most recent developments in technology from all over the world. This will also include the work done at NRF-iThemba LABS, by the South Africa CERN program and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope that is based in South Africa.

Media is welcome to attend the opening, and any other part of the conference.
