wpadmin NRF in the News August 24, 2021 The National Research Foundation (NRF) in collaboration with the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) wishes to call upon all the researchers (Doctoral students and Postdoctoral fellows) to send through their nominations for the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2022. The Summit in Singapore is a gathering of young researchers worldwide for a chance to interact with eminent scientists and technology leaders. It was started in 2013 with the objective of exciting and engaging young scientists to pursue their scientific dreams through close interactions with distinguished scientists and researchers, and with peers. The Summit provides a platform for conversations on science and research, technology innovation and society, and solutions to global challenges. The Summit is a multi-disciplinary summit that covers topics including chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, computer science and engineering. Speakers at the Summit include recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize and Turing Award. The theme for the Summit is “Advancing Science, Creating Technologies for a Better World”. Promising young scientists will exchange ideas and knowledge with the speakers and their peers over four days under this theme. The event will be held as follows: Date: 18 – 21 January 2022 (4 days) Time: 08:00-12:00 and 16:00-20:30 (Singapore time) Venue: Online Eligibility Criteria Applicants should: Not be older than 35 years of age at the time of the Summit; Show a genuine interest in science and research; Show a strong commitment to their principal field of studies and to interdisciplinary work; Received the endorsement of an organisation that was invited to provide nominees OR received strong support of their application by their head of department and/or by internationally renowned scientists, through a letter of recommendation; Be fluent in English to actively participate in discussions; Not have participated in previous Global Young Scientists Summits; and Not be in a permanent professional employment How to Nominate Interested parties to be considered either as participants or viewers should send their details to the NRF for the attention of Mr Nelson Komane on nelson@nrf.ac.za by no later than 12 September 2021, as follows: First name(s) and Surname; Email address; and Host institution Participant or Viewer (please select one) Based on the number of slots for participants and viewers provided to the NRF by the GYSS, the NRF will nominate the interested candidates on the GYSS portal and the GYSS committee will inform the nominees (via the submitted email addresses) by 17 September 2021 to provide further details and complete their applications. By mid November 2021, all nominated participants and their institutions will receive an update from the GYSS on the final decision on participant selection. All attendees would have access to the live plenary lectures, panel discussions, Q&A sessions and networking platforms. On top of these, Participants would also have a chance to Participate in a small group informal session with their pre-selected speaker; Showcase highlights of their research through a short video competition, where they stand to win attractive prizes; and Present their research at the summit. N.B: Please note that slots are limited to 40 per category (participant or viewer), and a nomination does not guarantee an invitation to participate in the GYSS 2022.
