NRF Announces Appointment of New Board Members

The NRF is pleased to announce that the Minister of the Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Honourable Dr Blade Nzimande, pursuant to Section 6 of the National Research Foundation (NRF) Act (Act 23 of 1998 as amended) has appointed the new Board of the NRF for a four-year term with effect from 01 December 2022 to 30 November 2026. The NRF Board is the governing body and accounting authority in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). The role of the Board is to lead the organisation through the discharge of its responsibilities in relation to strategic direction, policy approval, oversight and accountability such that the good governance outcomes of an ethical culture, good performance, effective control and legitimacy with stakeholders are achieved by the organisation.

“As the NRF heads towards a renewed strategic direction, we are excited to work under the leadership and guidance of the newly appointed Chairperson, Professor Mosa Moshabela, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and all Board members, whom we trust will bring invaluable insight from their respective fields of expertise and extensive experience.”

“I would also like to express our gratitude and sincere thanks to the outgoing NRF Board. Led by Dr Nompumelelo Obokoh, the outgoing Board ended its four-year term on 30 November 2022. We have achieved a great deal under their guidance and made significant headway in our ambition to Advance Knowledge, Transform Lives and Inspire a Nation”, says NRF CEO Dr Fulufhelo Nelwamondo.
