wpadmin NRF in the News March 26, 2025 On March 24, 2025, the National Research Foundation (NRF) hosted a heartfelt farewell gathering to honour Ron Grace, former Head of Supply Chain (SC), as he concluded his distinguished almost 20-year tenure with the organisation. Colleagues from various functions came together to celebrate Ron’s invaluable contributions to the NRF and to wish him well. Ron joined the NRF in 2005 as a Financial Manager at the Innovation Fund, which was part of the NRF at the time. He was later appointed Director of Corporate Finance, which showcased his financial acumen and strategic insight. In 2019, when the SCM function was separated from Finance, Ron was aptly appointed the Head of Supply Chain, a role in which he truly excelled. In his speech celebrating Ron’s legacy, NRF Chief Financial Officer emphasised Ron’s love of brainstorming, researching and divergent thinking. “Ron consistently encouraged his team to explore all angles of a problem, often playing devil’s advocate to ensure thorough analyses. His unwavering commitment to the NRF was evident by the frequency in which he put himself on the frontline of many difficult situations and challenges, demonstrating unconditional dedication to the organisation’s mission. His thought leadership certainly elevate the role of supply chain within the NRF, contributing significantly to the organisation’s string of clean audits,” said the Chief Financial Officer. His passion for research and commitment to stay abreast of trends ensured that the NRF’s supply chain processes remained innovative, relevant and effective. During his tenure, the NRF achieved a Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) rating, surpassing its initial goal of reaching Level 2 by 2025. As colleagues shared their reflections, the sentiment was unanimous: Ron’s leadership challenged his team to think beyond conventional thinking; inspired excellence and next level performance; and fostered a culture of loyalty and growth. His ability to identify and nurture talent highlighted his keen eye for potential and his commitment to the NRF’s future. His guidance, support and mentorship was profoundly mentioned by many colleagues as he personally celebrated many milestones of his team such as attainment of Master’s Degree, CIPS certifications and Post Graduate Diploma. On national platforms, he was a regular speaker at public procurement webinars; provided advisory insights to National Treasury; and contributed to policy development. In his farewell address, Ron expressed gratitude for the collective efforts of his TEAM and the remarkable leadership of the CFO. He emphasised the importance of collaboration and acknowledged the exceptional group of people he had the privilege to work with in the NRF. In closing, he said “I have worked for many organisations but never have I worked with such great people.” As Ron transitions to this new phase of life, the NRF community extends its heartfelt wishes and gratitude in his new adventures.
