wpadmin NRF in the News May 28, 2026 The Internal Audit function of the National Research Foundation (NRF) joined internal audit leaders and practitioners from across the African continent at the 12th African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA) Conference, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 26 to 29 May 2026. Hosted by IIA South Africa under the theme Sikelel’ i Afrika – One IIA, One Africa, One Voice, the conference brought together audit professionals to engage with the evolving challenges and opportunities that face the internal audit profession across Africa. The NRF delegation took full advantage of the rich programme, which featured keynote addresses from senior public sector leaders, including the Accountant-General of South Africa, Mr Shabeer Khan, and the Auditor-General of South Africa, Ms Tsakani Maluleke. Delegates engaged with sessions covering AI adoption, ESG transformation, data-driven auditing, ethics and integrity, and the strategic positioning of internal audit as a trusted advisor to boards and stakeholders. The conference also provided valuable networking opportunities, including the prestigious Gala Dinner — The Cape of Good Hope: A Royal African Affair —celebrated on the evening of Day 2. The NRF Internal Audit function’s participation underscores its commitment to continuous professional development, staying abreast of global best practices, and strengthening its contribution to governance and accountability within South Africa’s research and innovation landscape.
