The appointed service provider will evaluate national space research outputs, institutional performance, programme implementation, and investment effectiveness across key stakeholders, including SANSA, NRF, DSI, universities, and research centres.

The service provider will be responsible for assessing how current space-related activities contribute to South Africa’s national priorities including environmental and resource management, health, safety and security, and innovation-driven economic growth. This includes identifying strengths, gaps, challenges, and opportunities within the ecosystem; reviewing the impact and relevance of existing initiatives; and analysing levels of local capability, technology development, and industry growth.

The service provider will also collate evidence of scientific output, capacity development, technology advancement, and programme-level achievements; assess alignment with national strategic objectives and communicate key findings. The final deliverables must provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to guide future strategic direction and investment in the space science sector, supporting the development of a more competitive, self-reliant, and impactful national space capability.
