Obituary: Professor Michael Kgomotso Masemola

The NRF wishes to express its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Professor Michael Kgomotso Masemola, who passed away over the weekend.

Prof Masemola, a NRF B-rated researcher, was the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and the President of the South African Humanities Deans’ Association as well as a Professor of English Literature.

He obtained his BA and BA Honours from Wits University, an MA from the University of Natal, and a PhD from Sheffield University. He previously held the position of Executive Dean at UNISA. He authored a number of books and book chapters, co-edited Strategies of Representation in Auto/biography and contributed to the Routledge Encyclopaedia of Modernism.
