Prof Bruce Mellado wins TW Kambule-NSTF Award for Research

Professor Bruce Mellado won the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Research at this year’s NSTF-South32 Awards. Named after the esteemed South African Mathematician and Educator who was the first black professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, the award recognises research and research outputs. Prof Mellado won the award in recognition of his excellence in research through the management of South Africa’s contribution to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the CERN facility in Geneva, and the advancement of physics and artificial intelligence in South Africa.

Prof Mellado is a Senior Scientist at NRF-iThemba LABS; Research Professor in the School of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand; and Director of the Instutute for Collider Particle Physics.
