wpadmin NRF in the News September 17, 2021 The NRF congratulates Prof Felix Dakora as the 2021 Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food Laureate. This prominent award was made in the category of ‘Outstanding Career in Agricultural Development’ for his distinguished career devoted to agricultural development, and a significant contribution to agriculture research, innovation and capacity building. Prof Dakora is Professor of Plant and Soil Biotechnology at Tshwane University of Technology, and the DSI/NRF Research Chair in Agrochemurgy and Plant Symbioses. Former international recognition includes inter alia the Kwame Nkrumah Continental Science Award. He currently also serves as the President of the African Academy of Sciences. The Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize is aimed at recognising individuals, or a group of individuals for their exemplary and promising contributions in research, development, and capacity building to improve agricultural and food production systems while addressing food security and poverty reduction. The Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food was established in 2009 by the Agropolis Fondation as a tribute to Professor Louis Malassis, a French agronomist, and founder of Agropolis: an innovative platform for dialogue and constructive multi-stakeholder interaction that brings together over 40 member institution, public authorities and civil society actors with the aim of fostering and supporting agricultural, food and environmental research.
