SFSA session – Integrating Academic Research into Energy Policy

The National Research Foundation will host a Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) session on Thursday 5 December, 11:00-12:30 at the CSIR ICC’s Ruby Auditorium, titled ‘Integrating Academic Research into Policy – Insights from the Sasol-NRF Research Programmes’. The session will unpack selected Sasol-NRF research programmes, which not only address energy challenges in the country, but also inform and shape national energy policies. The programmes also foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen technologies for South Africa’s just energy transition. The session will aim to:

  1. Showcase Sasol-NRF’s support of the hydrogen economy, by aligning research outputs with the goals of the HSRM to facilitate the development of a robust hydrogen economy.
  2. Discuss approaches to ensure that research funded through the Sasol-NRF energy programme informs and shapes national energy policies.
  3. Stimulate collaboration between academia, industry, international institutions and government to accelerate the adoption of the hydrogen agenda.
