SRI2026 Africa Regional Conference Webinar Series: Sustainability technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for environmental action

Digital transformation is rapidly reshaping economies, governance systems, and environmental management worldwide. Digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), offer significant opportunities to accelerate progress toward environmental sustainability. At the same time, the expanding digital ecosystem carries its own environmental footprint through rising energy demand, resource extraction, and electronic waste. This dual reality makes it increasingly important to ensure that digital innovation is intentionally aligned with sustainability goals. Many countries are exploring how to harness AI and other digital tools to strengthen climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and natural resource management, while also addressing gaps in infrastructure, governance, skills, and investment. Coordinated dialogue and knowledge exchange are, therefore, essential to support responsible adoption and context-appropriate solutions.

Aligned with the SRI2026 Africa Regional Conference, contributing to dialogues that inform and shape the SRI2026 agenda, and under the theme “Sustainability Technologies and Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Action,” the webinar provides insights and experts to explore how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, can be responsibly used to address pressing environmental challenges in different regions of the world. The session will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and innovators to share insights, highlight practical use cases, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
