The NRF Hosts the National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences

As part of the continued engagements between China and South Africa, the NRF hosted the National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) on Tuesday, 23 April 2024. The engagement was led by NSLC CEO, Professor Mengli Li, and Dr Gugu Moche, the NRF’s Group Executive: Digital Transformation and Acting Deputy CEO: Research, Innovation and Impact Support and Advancement (RIISA). Among others, the meeting explored partnership opportunities in the field of Artificial Intelligence and modernisation; potential joint projects on digital platforms; and Open Science. Dr Moche noted the critical role of open science, open access, and open data in the science and innovation ecosystem as well as China’s increasing role in global scientific research publications.

The NSLC highlighted potential partnership opportunities in Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms such as the NSLC’s Global Open Knowledge Cloud. The NRF looks forward to working with NSLC, and the South African National Innovation Systems to steer shared learning and programming between the two countries. The NSLC is the research library service system of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as the National Library of Sciences in Chinese National Science and Technology Libraries (NSTL) system. NSLC functions as the national reserve library for information resources in natural sciences, inter-disciplinary fields, and high-tech fields, and serves the researchers and students of CAS and researchers around the country. It also provides services in information analysis, research information management, digital library development, and scientific publishing.
