UK-South Africa Smart Energy Global Innovation Network: UK Knowledge Exchange Tour Expression of Interest

Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa are strengthening the Energy partnership between South Africa and the UK by focusing on the digitisation of the energy sector using AI technologies. The aim of this network is to accelerate innovations needed to create a digital grid, integrate renewable energy, secure critical infrastructure and improve energy efficiency through UK-South African collaborations.

To facilitate knowledge exchange and the building of bilateral relationships, the UK-South Africa Smart Energy Global Innovation Network is inviting South African organisations to apply to be a part of a visit to the UK between the 24-30 June 2024. This visit will consist of visits to key stakeholders in the UK energy ecosystem, including those at the forefront of implementing digital energy technologies.

This visit will allow participants to expand their networks as well as learn about key advances that will help to build the energy system of the future. Ideally applicants will be working in or interested in implementing the following technology areas:

• Renewable energy generation (grid integration, generation forecasting, predictive maintenance)
• Smart grid development (metering, energy trading, cybersecurity, demand forecasting, infrastructure planning)
• EV integration (charging control, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G))
• Energy storage & distributed generation resource integration (virtual power plants, effective battery implementation & safety)
• Energy efficiency and demand management (building management systems, smart heating and cooling)
