The National Global Change Conferences are held biennially under the banner of the Global Change Grand Challenge (GCGC) – one of the focus areas known as grand challenges from the Ten-Year Innovation Plan (TYIP) of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). The recently adopted Decadal Plan 2022-2032, under the new White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation, has placed heightened emphasis on the importance of science, technology and innovation in achieving sustainable development. The conferences provide a platform for networking and knowledge sharing among global change stakeholders, and bring together between 350-600 change agents from the research and development sector, business, industry, government, and civil society, to share and debate the latest research and technology developments, and innovative solutions to some of the environmental sustainability challenges facing society.

The first call for oral and poster presentations and Expression of Interest (EOI) for host side events or exhibition will be issued in April 2025, and posted on the websites of conference partners: www.nrf.ac.za; www.dsti.gov.za; and www.ump.ac.za
