ANNOUNCEMENT OF NATIONAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION (NRF)-FIRST RAND EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION (FREF) BLACK ACADEMICS ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMME (BAAP) SUCCESFUL OUTCOMES 2026

The National Research Foundation (NRF) invited applications from prospective candidates who intend to undertake research in 2026 under the Black Academics Advancement Programme (BAAP) grant. The Call opened on 17 February 2025 and closed on 11 April 2025.

The announcement of the successful BAAP awardees has however been delayed in the interim period pending a joint meeting of the Steering Committee of the NRF and the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation (FREF). We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will endeavour to release the successful outcomes by end January 2026. Applicants and their respective institutions (through the DAs) will be updated on further developments.
