wpadmin Events June 3, 2022 Government officials, recipients of public funding for research and development (R&D), entrepreneurs, private sector stakeholders in innovation, and representatives of public science, technology and innovation (STI) entities are invited to an interactive workshop intended to contribute to improving the government’s collection and evaluation of data on South Africa’s STI expenditure. The emphasis will be on how STI data collection could become a collaborative effort across relevant South African government departments, and on what monitoring and evaluation approaches could be used to improve the effectiveness of STI programmes and the efficiency of expenditure on such programmes. Speakers will include organisations responsible for similar efforts in other regions of the world, including experts on STI indicators and policy from the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The National Advisory Council on Innovation will share some of the results of its analyses of expenditure on R&D in South Africa over the past 10 years, and solicit inputs on how it can define a core set of standardised performance indicators to track the outcomes of publicly funded R&D, develop a standard reporting mechanism for all beneficiaries of publicly funded R&D, and decide on an appropriate funding level for the South African national system of innovation. Enquiries: Nondumiso Jwatya at 072 661 2654 or Nondumiso.Jwatya@dst.gov.za.
